Ice Climbing Ecrins is an annual outdoor event not to be missed. This year the festival will take place from 12 to 15 January 2012 in L'Argentière la Béssée, in the Hautes Alpes region. The village of L'Argentière is located close to the world-class ice climbing areas of the Fournel and Freissinières. This is an event that gets better every year.

The 2011 gathering hosted more than 300 climbers who came to enjoy the excellent ice climbing and participate in the various workshops offered at the event.

Ice Expo

In the friendly atmosphere of the ICE Expo, you can test and purchase gear, and learn about new products at the various stands hosted by the event's sponsoring brands. This year the gear expo will be even bigger, with new brands participating.

During the four-day festival, the expo will be synchronized with the activities and workshops taking place.

The refreshment stand located in the same area as the gear expo is the perfect place to have a bite to eat and chat with other mountain enthusiasts.

Ice Competition

Two different competitions, two different sports, one great show...

Qualifications for the dry-tooling and free-style competitions will take place during the day, with the best climbers and riders going on to the finals, which will be held during Saturday night’s spectacular sound and light show. The competitions are open to all, upon proof of FFCAM membership.

Registration will take place on Saturday morning.

Ice Workshops

As much as ever, ICE 2012 remains deeply attached to the values at the heart of the event: safety and the sharing of knowledge.

Once again this year, one of the event’s main priorities is offering ice climbing instruction to the general public.

In conjunction with the FFCAM, numerous introductory and advanced workshops will be open to participants.

Workshop registrations will take place at the event, on the day before the workshop itself.

Keep in mind that spaces are limited.

Ice Eco-Attitude

The mountains are fragile; their icy beauty is ephemeral. Since the beginning, the organisers of ICE have taken pride in emphasizing respect for the environment and the ‘eco-attitude.’

The team of organisers strives to lessen the event’s environmental impact by introducing new strategies every year (recycling, reusable cups, carpooling...).

Additionally, participants don’t need a car during ICE, thanks to a well-organised system of shuttle buses that provide transportation to the numerous ice climbing areas in the region during the four-day event.
